After an incredible hilarious night in Fremont Street, on Saturday our journey through some of the West really began, as we drove a comparatively TINY portion of the world famous Route 66, stop several times along the way, before arriving at our destination of, Williams, Arizona.
We actually drove through some of California (cue The O.C. theme song, California, by Phantom Planet) on our way into Arizona, which was pretty awesome, even though the only thing we saw was mountains and landscape. Did you know that the speed limit decreases as you cross state lines? I bet you didn’t know that the roads had several dips that I had to cradle my stomach in protection from?
Having driven for ages (and literally tipped my stomach upside down), we arrived in this tiny town called Oatman. Oatman used to be a gold mining town before the mines shut and everyone left, leaving their donkeys, yes I said DONKEYS, behind to roam free.
After doing some roaming of our own, we watched a somewhat entertaining gun show, that made me jump several times… then got back into our vans and continued on our way.
Just before our stop in Williams, we stopped in another small town, that I could only describe as being very interesting. If anything, it looked more like a movie set, or at least a home to many movie sets, with cut-outs of film stars Marilyn Monroe and John Wayne, as well as some other interesting stuff.
We finally arrived in Williams sometime in the evening, and enjoyed what would be the first of three nights in the small town, and the first of three nights without wifi in the motel room.
I hope you’re enjoying my American adventures because there are still lots more fun to share! Check back tomorrow for more!!
