IAMX.

I’ve been sitting on these pictures for over a month, still in awe and disbelief that this actually happened, whilst wondering how to put the experience into words. In short, it was legit the single greatest experience of my whole entire life. The whole experience was magical, surreal, mesmerising, ineffable and just out of this world. I’ve been listening to IAMX for years and years and years (I think I first heard them when I was in year nine or eight – so just under a decade) and I’ve been blogging about them since the beginning of this blog; so to actually get the opportunity to see them live was definitely INSANE. It was absolutely mad, being in the same venue as Chris Corner and the rest of IAMX, singing along to songs I had only imagined hearing live. The atmosphere was just gjaghbfjfb. Oh my god I don’t even know. It was so moving and incredible, and sometimes when I looked through the pictures and watch the videos again, I still can’t believe I was there and that these are now memories for me. I feel so lucky and happy that I have such a great experience to look back on. Anyway, I think I’ll stop rambling now and share some of the pictures (though they in no way do how I felt or what I experience justice).

I don’t know when IAMX will next be in London, but to me, they’re worth travelling to another country for.

Turbowolf #2.

In last month’s FFT I mentioned how Turbowolf were back in town and how I was off to go see them for the second time! Well fast-forward almost a month (sorry for not posting sooner) and I’m FINALLY sharing it with you.

Turbowolf #2

I only managed three pictures (and the obligatory outfit pic), all of which look pretty random, but whenever I look at them I’m reminded of the fun and energy of the night.

Anyway, you can bet that I’ll be seeing them the next time they’re in London. If these pics don’t quite do it for you, check out the pics from my first time seeing them.

Manchester Whitworth Museum.

At the beginning of last month, Joan and I went up to Manchester to support our older sister who organised an Afrofutures event complete with presentations and workshops from people from around the world. It was only a short trip so we weren’t able to do a lot of things, but we did manage to fit a visit to the Whitworth Museum before we left. Even though it is relatively small when compared to some museums here in London, there was still quite a lot to see.

These glass (I think) sculptures looked so cool up close and were the perfect welcome into the museum.

I really should have made a note of the artist and what inspired the paintings because it was something really interesting. From what I remember, I think they were inspired by the dissection of objects.

These next pictures were some of my favourites. I loved the different landscapes and the colours that were used.

There was one particular picture that caught my eye long before I even read the description. It was a painting of an archway that I instantly recognised from living in Winchester for three years. I was strangely overjoyed to see this picture that made me think back my uni years.

While the ground floor was more contemporary, the first floor was filled with more classical art pieces.

I loved the nod to the Romantic period of the eighteenth and nineteenth century, which I know all too well about considering I took two semesters on the subject back in second year at uni.

I really want to own this painting. How pretty are the colours? I feel as though I’m flying overhead in a helicopter and looking down at the splendid view. It’s so breathtaking and beautiful.

We then concluded the morning with tea and cake in the museum café.

The Whitworth really made me want to visit more museums and galleries in London. So I will definitely try and see more in the future.

Summer Morning Walks.

Is it the summer? I want to say yes on account of the nice weather we’ve been having, but then I want to say no on account of the weather we’ve been having… Anyway, yesterday morning instead of going to for a run (which I was so sure I’d do), I went on a leisurely stroll (in my pjs) with my sister around our neighbourhood and enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere.

It’s not a bad way to spend the day off, and certainly makes a difference to staying in the office all day huh?

Exploring Paris: Père Lachaise Cemetery.

It’s fair to say that our last day in Paris rolled around WAY TOO FAST, but at the same time, it couldn’t have come at a better moment. After a long night seeing what the streets of Paris had to offer, we were a little tired in the morning and didn’t have much of a game plan in terms of how to spend our last few hours.

So true to Alice and Beth style, we decided to wing it, picking a random metro stop on the map and taking a gander – which much to our surprise meant exploring THE largest cemetery in the whole of Paris.

We honestly could have spent hours wandering around the final resting places of many a- fallen soldier and famous star, but with a long coach journey ahead and no guarantee of being able to recharge our tech (the epitome of a first world problem if you ask me), we left the grounds and stopped by a quintessential Parisian café for hot drinks, people watching and er selfies…

Oh boy do I love to people watch. It really is the most fascinating thing, watching total strangers go about their day as they cross roads, talk on phones or just walk looking ahead. How funny to think that I’ll most probably never ever see these people again (heck I can’t even remember what half of them looked like); and that even though I was looking at them, I had absolutely no idea who they were, what their names were, where they had come from, their whole back story – it truly is so fascinating.

All warmed up from our hot chocolates and coffees, we headed off to the coach station, stopping at the nearby shopping mall.

Nearing check-in time, we made our way to the coach station where we waited for our coach to leave and snacked on sweets for about the umpteenth time – we at so many sweets on this trip that we’ve taken a vow to never eat sweets ever again…

Exploring Paris: Père Lachaise Cemetery

Then boarded the coach and started the long journey back to London.

We stopped at customs to have our bags and passports checked.

Then it was back in our metal tin that didn’t feel as claustrophobic as on the way back, but that was probably because the coach was practically empty.

And then before we knew it, we were home sweet London home.

Exploring Paris: Paris By Night.

After a long day spent traipsing around Paris, with a battery-less camera and phone, the idea of passing out for the night seemed most ideal, especially with a long journey home the next morning. For about three hours we crashed – though I did pop into a nearby Darty (kind of like Curry’s) to buy a new charger for my phone – listening to music and allowing our bodies to rest. We then decided that as it was our last night, we should make the most of our time in this incredible city before we ended up regretting going to bed instead of seeing more of Paris. We had only intended on walking down the street to see what was down there, but ended up seeing so much more.

Exploring Paris: Paris By Night

We walked along a canal and through the square near where we were staying.

Then found ourselves walking further in search of Notre Dame and the Louvre.

Exploring Paris: Paris By Night

Exploring Paris: Paris By Night

Having spent the daytime wandering around Paris, it was like stepping into a totally different world seeing Paris by night. Almost as though night-time is when all the magic happens. Maybe it was because I’m a London girl, but walking through the streets of Paris at night felt so natural and casual, and although it felt like being a new world, the thought of walking through a foreign country at night didn’t faze me one bit.

We walked for god knows how long until we saw a bright structure that we recognised from earlier in the day – the Eiffel Tower.

Walking on still, we stumbled upon a Christmas market, which was kind of funny because earlier in the trip Beth and I had been complaining we had been unable to go a good Christmas market yet.

There were sweets, macaroni and cheese, candy floss as big as my head.

Realising that we had most probably gone the wrong way in search of Notre Dame and the Louvre, we continued on our walk, passing the Eiffel Tower for the last time.

It was then time for chocolately nourishment despite the fact we were both high from a potentially fatal candy floss overdose and anymore sugar in our systems was definitely not necessary.

When we got to Notre Dame it was lit up like a Christmas tree – literally – and most definitely worth the wait.

After a few too many snaps and the dissipating levels of sugar in our blood, it was time to head back for a good night’s sleep before a long coach ride home.

Exploring Paris: Eiffel Tower & Catacombs.

With only one full day in Paris, Beth and I knew we had to make the most of our time in the fabulous city, so we decided to jam it full with activities that included visiting the Eiffel Tower (natch) and the Catacombs. Knowing it would be a long day full of photo-tastic things, I had charged my phone through the night, only to find THAT MY CHARGER HAD BROKEN :O and that my phone had been on 1% for the whole night – I know, TRAGEDY! Luckily I had my camera to shoot the day’s fun festivities.

We started our day by fuelling ourselves with a Parisian breakfast of pain au chocolat and baguettes swathed in butter. I’m not a breakfast person, but it was soooo good.

We then set off for the day in search of the Eiffel Tower.

And made our way up to the very top – squealing with excitement and terror the whole time.

When we finally reached the top, it was like being on top of the world. Above the clouds, the sun shone fiercely and brightly (making it a little hard to take a picture without getting blinded hahaha), where we stood in awe and couldn’t stop grinning and smiling.

The Catacombs were nowhere near as scary or terrifying as I had expected them to be, but they were insanely fascinating, interesting and a whole lot of fun.
