Burberry: The DK88.

You know those pieces that for some unexplainable reason, the moment you lay eyes on them, something clicks deep within and before you know it you’re forgetting about your work and spending most of the morning looking at pictures online and calculating it’d only take two months to save for the beauty? Just me? Well last week during my morning read of emails and newsletters I came across a feature in Coveteur that mentioned this bag, The DK88, and some unexplainable reason, I found myself falling in love instantly, falling through the rabbit hole of Burberry’s website, completely forgetting about all the work that I had to do. While this bag is not usually one I’d give a second glance, I felt a really strong connection to it and (like I mentioned above) started calculating how long it’d take for me to save up; and (like I mentioned above) realised it’d only take two short months (in fact I realised I’d be able to afford it come August payday). But in the hopes of keeping myself on a leash and not going over the top, I figured that if I posted about the bag here, my obsession would slowly fade. Here’s hoping anyway…

Chic, ladylike, available in lots of great colours – like pink – and oh so wearable, I am in L O V E. Isn’t it a real beauty?

I Won’t Complain.

I first heard this song a few months ago when I was randomly on snapchat and watched the Burberry feature about their latest perfume campaign, and this song was the first thing to catch my attention. Since then I’ve been meaning to put this song on the blog but I keep forgetting. I probably would have forgotten again for another week had I not come across this song on an advert earlier this week on snapchat. This song is so moving and beautiful, it brings a tear to my eye. The first time I heard this song, I got chills all over my body and for the first time in a long time, I felt at peace with everything that was happening in my life at the time. Benjamin’s voice is haunting, full of passion, honest and hopeful. I feel myself really connecting to the song and lyrics and with each listen, I feel like I’m learning something new about myself. I love this song so much and will definitely be listening to it on repeat all day.

Give this song a listen, and happy Sunday!

Crushin’.

I saw these pictures last night, and I think it was a combination of the photography, the lighting and the outfit that made this post, from Fashion Squad, a hit in my mind. Carolina definitely crushes it with her sultry laid-back pout, perfectly made up face and effortless style.

Prorsum Does Peplum.

I was never a fan of the peplum craze and found myself kind of detesting it, especially when it peaked, however since it’s died down and fashion’s seemed to have moved on, I guess you could say that I’ve started to look at it in a different light. I’ve had my eye on this Burberry Prorsum satin peplum top for a while now, and I just can’t shake the feeling that somehow I’m meant to own it. I mean, I don’t know, I could be wrong…

This look is also kind of reminiscent of Rachel McAdams’ outfit at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards, just a little updated for 2013, don’t you think?

I can remember watching this award ceremony eight years ago and just loving EVERYTHING about her look

Ryan and Rosie: the new faces of M&S…per-leease

I don’t even know where to begin.

A few days ago I found out that Ryan Reynolds and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were the new faces of Marks and Spencer’s, supposedly in a bid to increase sales and draw more attention to the chain. When I saw the pictures, the whole thing just looked too wrong for words, then to make matters worse all afternoon/evening, I’ve seen TOO many buses with their stupid campaign plastered on it.

Marks & Spencer Autograph Men's & Womens Clothing at Brooklands Weybridge Store or Shop at M&S Online The new Autograph campaign

Don’t get me wrong, my problem is not Ryan and Rosie, although Ryan has issues acting and looks like a walking comedy show, similar to Anne Hathaway (but that’s for another post), and Rosie suddenly thinks that she’s an “actor” and a paparazzi darling. Aside from these issues Ryan and Rosie are okay. My problem is with Marks and Spencer’s making such a desperate bid for costumers (as if nobody buys their food) in such a desperate way.

Founded in 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer, Marks and Spencer’s were known for only selling British made goods, although in 2002 they started selling goods from around the world. In 1998 it became the first British retailer to make a pre-tax of £1billion (sounds very impressive to me).

The campaign which features an awkward looking Huntington-Whiteley and Reynolds pretending to look like a couple is painful. Why not just hire professional models that nobody has heard of? The pictures look as though Marks and Spencer’s are a luxury clothing brand (or at least it looks like that is what they want to become) like Jaeger or Jigsaw (I DON’T THINK SO), and it all just ends up looking a tad bit fraught. Whatever happened to the old (slightly) cheesy ad campaigns with Twiggy, Lisa Snowdon and Erin O’Connor? At least those ads looked bright and fun, and showed that Marks and Spencer’s knew what they were good at and stuck by it? Ryan looks a bit too American cool for these new ads and Rosie looks uncomfortable in clothing (she is after all known for being a Victoria’s Secret and underwear model, as well as being the face of Burberry Body which sees her in just a trench and nothing else).

 An older campaign

I just hope that Marks and Spencer’s gets the sale boost they need, so that these ridiculous ad campaigns can be taken down and I no longer have to mutter mean things under my breath. Or at least in future, use two different people who at least have some kind of chemistry.

If I wasn’t buying from Marks and Spencer’s before, I sure as hell won’t start now.

What’s new Wednesday: Burberry Brit

They say there’s a Burberry Girl for everyone; Burberry Prorsum for the cool A-listers, Burberry London for the city chic crowd, Burberry Brit for the cool girls, and Burberry for the “traditionalists”. Today I think I discovered which Burberry Girl I was.

Burberry, started in 1856, is most famous for the trench coat, and since Christopher Bailey took over as creative director in 2001 (later becoming chief creative director in 2009), both the label’s popularity and sales have increased. (I personally think that it’s not just down to his creative finesse but his good looks too ;P he is HOT HOT HOT.) The once infamous checked pattern has since been updated with an understated transformation thanks to new campaigning with the help of British models and young stars.

 Christopher Bailey

Scrolling through net-a-porter.com’s “what’s new” section I came across this double breasted Burberry Brit wool-blend cocoon coat. The coat is burgundy and looks as though it’ll ooze strong red wine and beetroot if you touch it (both things I LOVE). As well as being a staple for many women in the coming fall/winter months, it is a highly functioning coat with two large zip pockets; meaning that nothing will slip out if you’re running to catch that last train or cab.

Funnily enough last week whilst doing a quick browse through Uniqlo on High Street Ken with my sister, she stumbled upon a very similar looking coat (the only difference is that the pockets are not zipped and that the coat was navy), and ever since I’ve been debating over whether or not I should get it. Seeing the Burberry Brit coat today, there was no doubt in my mind that the Uniqlo coat would be bought as soon as.

WOMEN Wool Pea CoatUniqlo double-breasted navy wool pea coat

Both can be worn down with some cool flats (think ballet flats or plimsols like TOMS and Superga) or up, with some chucky platforms. As I love the “big on top, small on the bottom” look, I’d pair it with a mini skirt or skinny jeans for the bottom, and plenty of layers for the top. Burgundy and navy are perfect colours for fall/winter and can be worn both day AND night.

I guess this means I’m a cool girl (natch) and if it’s one thing that Burberry knows and does best, it’s a coat.
