Rebecca Vallance.

Despite being on the fashion scene since 2011, it’s taken me up until last weekend to discover Rebecca Vallance. The Australian born designer started as a fashion publicist before turning to creating her own brand that has grown from a small local clothing line to an international presence, being stocked in stores like Harvey Nichols and Intermix, as well as on luxury online stores like net-a-porter.

Of her clothing you can expect structured feminine pieces, that while ladylike are not ultra-dainty, but movable stylish garments that cater to the modern woman. You can also expect lots of flamenco-style ruffles and pleats for added texture and character.

Though the designs are undeniably great, their price point is also something to look to as it’s not excessively expensive – at least not compared to some other designers.

Jewels & Dresses.

Oooh, two net-a-port posts in two days… can you tell I’m procrastinating? Just kidding I’m not, I’ve just hit a wall. Anyway, while I try to get over this mental block, I thought a little browse on net-a-porter would do the trick. Today’s picks are jewels and dresses (everything a girl needs in life) that can all be styled with these awesome platform Eytys sneakers. While I’m usually not a fan of the flatform sneaker, I’ve had my eyes on these particular ones for a few months now and I wish soooo badly that I could own them. To show my love for the sneaker (and to mix things up a bit) I’ll be featuring these sneakers in every Styling Suggestion, to bring a laid back and casual feel to my favourite pieces. I hope you like it.

LBD Inspiration.

As always, I’m on the lookout for some new LBDs – I mean after all, a woman can never have too many and apparently I don’t quite own enough – so where better to check out inspiration than net-a-porter which I always bristling with fabulous ideas. Check out my favourites below.

Dress It Up.

Who doesn’t LOVE dresses? They are the ultimate wardrobe staple, whether it be an LBD or a cute casual sundress or even the most luxurious gown, you are guaranteed to find at least one dress in a girls wardrobe. Dresses can be a quick fix when you’re in a rush to leave the house and don’t have time to pick out separates, or if you’re looking for a jaw-dropping piece for that hot date. Dresses are so major that they regularly show their chic designs on the red carpet, as well as on the catwalk. And I’m not just talking about the girls here; even guys love dresses, maybe not so much wearing them (although Marc Jacobs did don a black lace dress at this year’s Met), but they love to look at girls in dresses, and most definitely undoing dresses (if you get what I mean). This past week I’ve seen some pretty incredible dresses on net-a-porter and here are a pick of my favourites:

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

Alexander McQueen really knocked it out of the park with these stunning dresses. Depending on how dressed up you want to go, these can take you from day to night by a simple change of footwear or bag. Although the McQueen star has been on the rise since the genius that was Lee McQueen graduated from Central Saint Martins, it is arguably fair to say that its star has risen even higher since the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding last year, with thanks to Sarah Burton.

When I first saw this green dress I wasn’t too sure of it, but then there was something about it that I could not resist. I love the cap-sleeves, the length, the rich and yet dark green, plus the baroque-esque print. I would wear with black heels to dress it up, but to dress it down I would team it with a pair of Ugg boots or Superga flats for a laid back day time look.

Styling Suggestion:

Miu Miu     Bottega Veneta

McQueen

You really can’t get any sexier than this red stretch-crepe halter neck dress. While it may need to be taken up a few inches for me (what can I say? I love things short), and I’m not too wild about the back, this is the perfect dress for a night out dancing with friends or for a hot date. I’d wear with nude heels and a dark clutch.

McQueen

I love oversized knitted jumpers and thick knitted dresses, so when I saw this it was immediately added to my wishlist. I also have a similar dress from Uniqlo, which I love, and wore quite a lot in the winter months. I would wear with black ankle boots and tights and a purple clutch for casual drinks with friends.

Styling Suggestion:

Miu Miu     Gucci

THAKOON

This printed cotton dress is reminiscent of Diane von Furstenberg’s infamous wrap dress but it still manages to hold its own. I love that the dress is cinched in the waist so all you need to do is add a pair of flats and a bag, and you can be on your way.

Thakoon

Styling Suggestion:

Repetto     Handbag Le Pliage

SEE BY CHLOÉ

Knitted dresses are so cosy, especially if you don’t really feel like going out (day or night) but you know that you have to. They are perfect pieces for both day and night and can be worn practically all year round (aside from summer). I find this blue (net-a-porter think it’s dark purple, what do you think?) to be really striking despite it being quite dark. I would wear with black ankle boots and tights then add a black bag.

Styling Suggestion:

Moschino     Gucci

GUCCI

I’m not really a big fan of bright coloured body-con dresses or clothes for that matter (although I have been trying new things when it comes to clothes), so I can see why I was drawn to this dress. The draped boxy-ness of the dress gives it a bit of a Victoria Beckham edge that I just love. Aside from the fact that it kind of looks like it has a hood, it has a ‘street’ appeal that I find almost endearing. I would wear with Isabel Marant sneaker wedges and a Zara bag.

Gucci

Styling Suggestion:

Isabel Marant Willow leather and suede sneakers

Gucci

This dress leaves me torn. I am beyond in love with the front, but wish that somebody would burn the back. Okay, that was a little harsh, but I am just NOT feeling the complicated details of the back at all! Ignoring the back, the front is uber sophisticated and I love how the wool-blend looks like leather (at least in the pictures) that could be sliced like butter – YUM. I would wear with black heels and a quilted bag.

Gucci

Styling Suggestion:

Yves Saint Laurent     Marc Jacobs

VICTORIA, VICTORIA BECKHAM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Victoria Beckham (and her line) so I’ll try not to be too biased. I love that despite criticism from most people, she still manages to deliver time and time again, pleasing even more people. I think that contrary to some people’s feelings, she does indeed know the average woman’s body (one doesn’t need to be a size 16 to know what they want to wear. And it just so happens that her dresses do cater to all sizes and despite their hefty price tags, her dresses still act as inspiration when looking for cheaper alternatives) and has been applauded for it from those in the business. Her latest collection has seen beautiful cocoon dresses, interesting shapes and luxe colours.

This jacquard dress is an ivory dream of silk loveliness with a great above-the-knee cut. I can see this dress hitting the red carpet in times to come. I would wear with an oversized clutch and heels, with my hair in a high ponytail.

Victoria, Victoria Beckham

Styling Suggestion:

Yves Saint Laurent     Chloé

Victoria

This structured number is a great option for a night out, with the cutesy lavender colour adding a bit of fun to the outfit. I would wear with an oversized clutch or an equally structured bag, and sky high heels.

Victoria, Victoria Beckham

Styling Suggestion:

Christian Louboutin     Victoria Beckham

Victoria

I would wear with black pumps and a tan clutch.

Styling Suggestion:

Victoria Beckham     Yves Saint Laurent

Victoria

I love long-sleeves on a dress because it means that I don’t have to spend ages looking for a jacket or worrying about feeling cold; and I like that long-sleeves don’t mean you get over heated once inside. I would wear with platforms and a small bag.

Victoria, Victoria Beckham

Styling Suggestion:

Yves Saint Laurent     Bottega Veneta

RAG & BONE

This white dress is a little outside of my comfort zone, but that may be why I like it so much. I would wear with tan wedges and a clutch.

Rag & bone

Styling Suggestion:

Bottega Veneta     Jimmy Choo

PAUL & JOE

The moment I laid eyes on this dress it was like love at sight. Looking at it now, I can’t quite say why I love it so much as it’s not something I would ever go for, but I just love it. Maybe it’s the high neck and ruffled flamenco sleeves, I don’t know, but whatever it is I’m not complaining. What do you think? I would wear with nude pumps or glittery sandals and a small clutch.

Which dress was your favourite? I honestly can’t decide, I just want all of them, but with my bank balance at its current low, I think I’ll be on the lookout for some Parallel Prices and keep you guys posted. Let me know what you think (especially about the See By Chloé dress – is it blue or purple?). Check out net-a-porter to see what else is new today. Happy Wednesday!
