Five Favourites Thursday: Nigeria.

It feels like forever ago since I landed back at Heathrow after spending two weeks in Nigeria not thinking about work or dissertations or anything – oh how I long for those two weeks again. Anyway, as it’s the last Thursday of the month, I thought I’d share five of my favourite snaps from the holiday.

These snaps really take my mind off all the work I still have to do, but at least this time next week I shall be dissertation free! Happy Thursday!

First.

When I heard this song on last week’s Suits, I realised just how long it’d been since I had last listened to Cold War Kids. It’s funny to think that I used to listen to them on repeat for hours on end, and would sing along to all the words on ‘Mine is Yours’, whilst daydreaming about maybe one day seeing them live. My how time flies… Anyway, like most other Cold War Kids songs, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. it’s got this vibe to it that’s just so Cold War Kids (sorry I don’t know how else to describe it), and it’ll have you tapping your feet and humming along in no time. It’s perfect for a lazy summer’s Sunday basking outside in the sun.

Happy Sunday.

Blue Jeans.

Saturday was really such a beautiful day. With highs of up to 19 degrees it was the perfect opportunity to crack open my new jeans and take them out for a whirl. It’s been a really long time since I’ve owned jeans that were so blue, but these are just phenomenal and I’m already thinking of buying another pair.

The only thing that would have really completed this look would have been the pair of Boca shades I was talking about on Friday. Don’t you think?

Summer Neutrals.

Between writing three four-thousand word essays and going to work, it’s a wonder I have time to go out for a leisurely stroll and enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve been having here in London. Last week temperatures rose to 25° which called for slinky shorts and sheer fabrics to keep me cool.

I hope the weather stays this nice so I can dress like this every day.

Five Favourites Thursday: Bags.

I haven’t shared any of the latest additions to my net-a-porter wish list for quite a while, so I thought I’d use today’s ‘Five Favourites’ to get you all up to speed on the five bags I’m lusting after.

Parallel Prices: The Denim Dress.

Last week I raved about this Current/Elliott denim dress, but unfortunately as much as I loved it, I was not loving the £265 price tag (if were in a grown-up-nine-to-five it would probably be a different story but alas…). So anyway, as I was coming up with a mini price plan in my head of how long it would take to save up for it, I happened upon a tweet from Jack Wills advertising a similar dress. I raced to their website and sure enough I found the similar dress (it looks kind of different but it’s similar enough for me hahaha) that was a fraction of the price at £69.50!

Jack Wills may not be marketing their dress as the perfect denim dress, but it comes pretty close. It’s nice and short (just how I like it), the sleeves can be rolled up and fastened, and the dress comes in three other colours if chambray isn’t quite your thing. Lord knows my obsession with how much I love Jack Wills and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

This is perfect just in time for summer. Check it out!

Soccer Mom Lumberjack.

There’s something about this gilet that just lends itself so well to thoughts of being a lumberjack (especially when wore with these shorts), so naturally every time I wear it/ see it/ or take a picture in it, the first thought that comes to my mind is chopping up wood in the Swiss Alps. This also means that anytime you see this gilet here, you can be sure that I’ll make some kind of reference to lumberjacking (…is that even a word? Word doesn’t seem to think so but who cares…)

So, I wore this while running errands last week, despite the randomly soaring temperatures – I mean, I totally thought that summer had ended mid-August, but I guess I was wrong, not that I’m complaining or anything – and felt pretty cool. The look really struck a not-quite-summer-anymore-but-not-yet-autumn chord, which I liked, while adding that extra kind of glamour to an otherwise soccer mom outfit.

Maybe when the weather finally decides that it should start getting colder, I might swap the shorts for a pair of full length jeans and see if I can alter my lumberjackness for a different kind of soccer mom style.

ps. And in case you were wondering, I was listening to Chris Young’s A.M. album, which is catchy and so perfect omg, and most definitely worth a download.
